Summit is our new soft and elegant 2-ply DK made from 60% Suri alpaca and 40% Merino wool.  Next-to-skin soft and with a gentle drape, Summit will make beautiful shawls and cardigans, lace and colorwork, and tops light enough for spring days or cool summer nights.  With the same twist and yardage, Summit pairs nicely with Solstice Light DK
 
The colors of Summit are a tonal study - each color has a coordinated partner that was dyed in the same dye pot....the same hue taking on a strikingly different tone depending on whether the base color was natural fawn or chocolate.  And differing tones are what make for great colorwork!
 
The fiber in Summit comes from a bit further afield than our other fibershed grown yarns.  In 2021, I was approached by a couple living in Holyoke MA in regard to buying many pounds of fiber grown during their 20 years raising Suri alpacas in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina.  I had never touched Suri alpaca, as it is quite rare and makes up only about 5% of the world's alpaca popuation.  The long locks of the Suri alpaca are as soft as cashmere, warmer than wool and as lustrous as silk.  We've blended it with a bit of our soft Merino to give a bit of structure to your projects, but Summit still has the elegant drape alpaca garments are known for.  Bloom is happy to purchase this gorgous fiber from Lyle and Sue Baskin as it represents the passion, love and hard work they put into the animals at Riverside Farm before the couple retired here in Western Mass. 
 
Summit is organically dyed in Ashfield MA and expertly spun at Battenkill Fibers in Washington County NY, just 2 hours away from the Bloom Dye Studio.
